Our workshop in Makkum

Since 2004, Van Malsen Jachtbetimmering has worked from our workshop on the Makkumerdiep, with a direct connection to the IJsselmeer. Founder Roland van Malsen started from his love of woodworking and rowing — a passion that grew into a workshop where yachts are finished down to the smallest detail, and where his oars are respected well beyond Makkum.

We renovated the workshop thoroughly in 2018; our machines now run largely on solar power. As a certified apprenticeship workshop, we've partnered with ROC Friese Poort since 2019 to train new craftsmen in practice — shipbuilding and interior-joinery students get hands-on experience at our workshop, including building oars.

Rooted in Makkum

We're rooted in our village: since 2015 we've sponsored the rowing sloop Fjoer Fûgel, and we also support the Makkum Skûtsje and the local autocross club.
